Trevi Fountain

Nothing is as iconic as the Trevi Fountain when we think about Rome. It’s one of the most famous fountains of the world and the largest Baroque fountain in Rome. Over the years, it has piqued the interest of one of the greatest filmmakers of all time like Federico Fellini (La Dolce Vita) and William Wyler (Roman Holiday). The grandeur, the legends, and the hype all culminate in making the site as one of the most visited in Rome.

Legend has it that if you throw one coin into the fountain using the right hand over the left shoulder, you will return to Rome one day. Throw two coins, and a new romance will come your way. And to throw three coins will lead to marriage. Though I’m not inherently superstitious, I thought it would be fun to throw at least one coin (I’ve no desire of two and three coming true all over again 🙂 ). Moreover, it’s estimated that 3,000 euros are thrown into the fountain each day and the money is used to subsidize a supermarket for Rome’s needy. So it’s a good cause after all and not entirely driven by legends.

So on my last evening in Rome, I did throw a coin into the fountain wishing that I would return to Rome again. And strangely I felt quite happy. I had a spring in my step as I climbed up the stairs and faded into the winding streets with a promise in my heart to return again.
