It was a quiet evening. The fireworks over Naini Lake had given way to the sound of silence. The leftover smog had covered what otherwise would have been a star-spangled night sky. However, not all was lost … the night lights of Nainital dancing on the lake added the much needed colors.

I sat there by the window observing the colors reflecting on the lake. A bit sad … a bit contemplative … thinking about the distraught Shiva performing the Tandava dance with Sati’s charred body, which led to her body come apart, with the eyes of the goddess falling in the lake.

I don’t know how such legends come about. How it evokes so much love … so much pain … so much faith. Maybe it’s all about us … the love and pain that we go through till the balance is restored. I have faith. Do you?
