Nature is impersonal, awe-inspiring, elegant, eternal. It’s geometrically perfect. It’s tiny and gigantic. You can travel far to be in a beautiful natural setting, or you can observe it in your backyard.

— Gretchen Rubin

It’s been some years. There was a time when we used to drive to distant far off places on weekends, long weekends, and vacations. Sometimes we planned extensively … sometimes we just hopped in the car and drove—through forests, along mountains, through deserts, along lakes, through canyons,  along coastlines—almost anything and everything that nature had to offer. But that was America … you can pretty much drive through and around the whole country. But in my home country, India, things are a bit different … or so I thought.

We threw caution to the wind and we drove … just like the good old times. We drove through three states—Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, and Kerala. Our destination was Munnar.

The experience was as good as our experiences in America … probably even better in a few aspects. Impeccable roads, jaw dropping landscapes that reminded me of Scottish highlands and Swiss countryside, and heart warming hospitality from our hosts Jeena and Jo. I know it sounds a bit like Gini & Jony but I’m not kidding … their warmth made our trip complete. Moreover, Jo is a wonderful cook. He treated us with the best of Appam, Puttu, and Fish Moilee that we have ever had.

And for the landscape … its pure magic!
