One morning, just after the break of dawn, I found myself admiring Fontana della Barcaccia (Fountain of the longboat), a Baroque-style fountain in Piazza di Spagna. According to a legend, as River Tiber flooded in 1598, water carried a small boat into the Piazza di Spagna. When the water receded, it left the boat in the center of the square, and it was this event that inspired the creation of the fountain.
And then … there are those incredible array of 174 steps known as the Spanish Steps that connect Piazza di Spagna with Piazza Trinità dei Monti!
Rome never ceases to amaze me!
