A few years back, on my trip to New Delhi, I was out for a morning walk in Lodi Gardens. I still remember vividly, there were those four arches and a divine interplay of light and shade that stopped me in my tracks.
Couple of weeks later, in Varanasi, a sadhu (a Hindu monk) stopped me in my tracks. He told me that the secret of happiness can be found in the four laws of spirituality. He also said, once I meditate on the laws and absorb them completely, all interplay of light and shade will vanish. That all duality will cease to exist. That I will be left with no anger, no anxiety, no fear. That I will be left only with love, happiness, and joy.
“The first one says, the person who arrives is the right person,” he said. “No one enters our life by chance. All people around us, all those who interact with us, are there for a reason … to teach us and help us progress.”
“The second law says, what happened is the only thing that could have happened. Nothing, absolutely nothing that happened in our life, could have been otherwise. That’s how we learn the lesson and we move forward. Each of the situations that occur in our life is ideal, even if our ego is reluctant to accept it.”
“The third one says, the moment is the right time. Everything starts at the right time, not before nor later. When we’re ready to start something new in our life, then it will take place.”
The fourth and last,” he paused a bit and then said with a smile, “when something ends, it’s over. That’s it … let it go. Nothing is permanent. Learn from it and move on. Be enriched by the experience … evolve.”
He then walked away with the smile still on the edge of his lips.
I think it was not random that he stopped me and enlightened me on the laws. I think it’s not random if you read this. I think the reason these four laws have entered our lives today is because we are ready to understand that no raindrop ever falls in the wrong place.
Be good to yourself. Love with your whole being. Be happy.
