If Paris is a city of lights, Sydney is the city of fireworks.
— Baz Luhrmann
Darling Harbour is likely the best place for fireworks in Sydney. And the best month for that is surely December. The sky above Cockle Bay blazes with festive fireworks for 12 nights before Christmas.
So, if you were in Sydney during the festive season and you didn’t get to see the fireworks, you know who to blame.
On one of those not so silent nights, I was there on the Pyrmont Bridge, a swing bridge across the Cockle Bay, supposedly the best location in Darling Harbour to see the fireworks.
Gradually, the crowd and anticipation started building up. As the clock struck nine, the sky was set ablaze with colors from the rainbow.
However, all that joy was short-lived. It was over in about nine minutes. I was left wondering whether it was worth lugging my tripod and camera gear for all of nine minutes. But thankfully, the view from Pyrmont Bridge was magnificent and I hung around there for quite a bit. When nine minutes stretched deep into the night, I picked myself up and took one last shot from the bridge.
